The Greater Hartford Pro-Am is rolling again, after all.
Thanks to some last-minute intervention from Hartford
Mayor Pedro Segarra, the best summer basketball league in the area kicked off
on Saturday and will continue on over the next couple of months at Classical
Magnet School at 85 Woodland St.
Up until the middle of last week, there was worry about
where the league would play. The Sports & Sciences Academy, where the
league ran the past three summers, wasn’t available this year.
The league is a great place to check out some of the
past, current and future stars of Connecticut basketball, including many of
next year’s UConn players. However, due to certification issues, Division 1 players can’t start playing
until this Saturday.
Ex-UConn players like Kemba Walker , Jerome Dyson and
Gavin Edwards should suit up this summer (Edwards and Dyson already have), as
well as Ryan Gomes, Gary Forbes and other local pros.
The schedule should be up at ghpabball.com soon (though
as of Sunday afternoon, it wasn’t up yet).
Games are on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and 8:15
p.m., as well as Saturday tripleheaders at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. and Sunday
tripleheaders at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.
