Halfway There

Setting themselves up for another heartbreaker? We'll see.

Some observations at the break:

***The Huskies – Kemba Walker and Jerome Dyson in particular – are playing hard. Very physical game, lots of wild sequences, very entertaining.

***For the first time this season, Alex Oriakhi didn't start. Charles Okwandu was in the starting lineup instead. Okwandu and Ater Majok have three fouls each, and Gavin Edwards two.

***Scottie Reynolds is the Big East player of the year. Gotta be.

***Stanley Robinson has six points – and six turnovers.

***Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel have banners hanging from the Wachovia Center rafters -- The Boss for 51 sellouts in the building, Joel for 48.

  1. Dave, what do you think the huskies need to do (aside from the big east tourney) to make the NCAA tournament? Let's not forget that the NCAA committee is usually pretty generous to UConn, especially when it comes to seedings. With that said, do you think they could afford to lose one more game and still get in?

  2. hey Dave. I read your blog religiously, and I am a huge UCONN fan. Went to the final four last year as a senior. I want to make a suggestion: please consider your audience - I imagine you were probably taught objective journalism, but personally, I wish you were a little more biased when reporting on UCONN. We know when we're not doing well, we see the flaws, and i'm not telling you not to comment on them, i'm just saying give me some hope when you do. I want to hear someone rooting in my corner, not objectivity after a loss. I know you are not required to be a husky fan and u may have ur own allegiences, but just put urself in my shoes. We may not be the best team, but i always keep the faith and look for the positives, i just think you should consider some empathy when our team is down. My two cents, didn't mean to offend you.

  3. I just posted the comment about what UConn needs to do to be dancing. Brian, not to offend YOU, but I think the blog is pretty good the way it is. If you want to read a blog that only cheers the Huskies no matter what, you should consider starting one. This is sports. I'm a Jets fan as well. I read about 3 blogs and most rag on the Jets all the time. That doesn't mean they're not fans. Why would you not rag on a team that gives a pathetic effort and can only seem to get themselves up for a big game. Uconn is notorious for playing either up or down to its competition.

  4. Sorry it took so long to reply to the first post, but at this point, I think UConn needs to go 9-9 and win 2 games in the BE tourney to have a strong shot of going in. That means going 4-1 the rest of the way.

Could they go 3-2 with a win over West Virginia, then win 2 games in the BE tourney and get in? Maybe. Three games in the tourney would probably be needed.

7-11 and get to the BE tourney finals ? ... eh, you could drive yourself crazy thinking of all the scenarios. The Huskies simply need to take it (awful cliche alert) one ... game ... at ... a ... time.
